Two men arrested for sexual abuse of a child

PELHAM—The Pelham Police Department arrested a 32-year-old Pelham man and a 29-year-old Calera man on Oct. 2 for the alleged sexual abuse of an underage female victim on Oct. 2.
According to court documents, Mariano Hernandez-Alvarez and Mauricio Hernandez-Alvarez allegedly sexually abused the same child over a 13-month span, beginning in Aug. 2013.
Mariano Hernandez-Alvarez, who lists an address in the 100 block of Oliver Street in Pelham, was arrested and charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years of age.
According to court documents, “on or about June 2014,” Mariano Hernandez-Alvarez allegedly subjected “another person who is less than 12 years old to sexual contact.”
Mauricio Hernandez-Alvarez, who lists an address in the 2000 block of Dry Creek Road in Calera, has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old. According to court documents, the sexual contact allegedly occurred between Aug. 2013 to October of this year.
Both men are currently being held in the Shelby County Jail. Mariano Hernandez-Alvarez is being held under a $15,000 bond and Mauricio Herandez-Alvarez is being held under a $30,000 bond.
Sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old is a Class B felony offense carrying a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment.
