CALERA—The Shelby County NAACP’s Family Fun Day will provide both entertainment and education to the community, event organizer Dorothy Guillory said.
The event will have information about voting rights, college preparedness and the ACT, available credit repair service, health insurance, home ownership and financial freedom. There will also be a nurse’s station with a free blood pressure check, attorneys available for a free consultation and a military recruiter.
The entire family can enjoy the event, with face paining for kids as well as inflatables, a crafts table and a creative arts station. In addition, hotdogs, popcorn and ice cream will be served.
“I’m hoping this family fun day connects the community,” Guillory said. “We want families to come out. Most of all, we want you to enjoy yourself and have fun.”
The event, which will take place at Oliver Park on Sept. 20 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., is free and open to the community. Donations are welcome and will be used to raise money for future events.
“We’re just letting the people know we’re united,” Guillory said.
