CALERA—Ever wondered if your family heirloom has as much monetary value as sentimental meaning?

Tommy Lynn Morrison of Cadle’s Auction in Calera, a certified appraiser and member of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America, will appraise of one item during Roy Downs Memorial Calera Library’s “Appraising Your Valuables” event.

“Everybody’s got something in their closet grandma gave them and they want to know if it’s worth something,” Library Director Janet Greathouse said.

The program is part of the “Outside the Lines (Libraries Reintroduced)” library initiative, which aims to host programs that “spotlight the vitality and relevance of public libraries while simultaneously highlight and connecting with parts of the community,” Greathouse said.

The library will host a number of other events in conjunction with local businesses, including an event focused on pet grooming scheduled for October as well as a session on sewing and embroidery.

“We will highlight several businesses in the community,” Greathouse said, noting the programs would occur once a month.

“Appraising Your Valuables” will be held Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Roy Downs Memorial Calera Library. For more information about the event, call 668-7200.
