Woman charged with promoting prison contraband, possession of meth

COLUMBIANA—Jodie Lynn Upton, 42, is being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting prison contraband and possession of a controlled substance.
Upton was in the Shelby County Jail after being arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony, on May 28. Upton was charged with possessing “suboxone and nucynta ER,” according to court documents.
On June 25, Upton was charged with promoting prison contraband. Upton allegedly “being a person confined in a detention facility” did “unlawfully make, obtain or possess” methamphetamine.
Upton was also charged with possession of drug paraphernaliea after she did “unlawfully use or possess with the intent to use” a pipe, for “smoking a controlled substance.” Upton is also being charged with possession of a controlled substance, after allegedly possessing methamphetamine.
Upton is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $16,000 and is set to appear before Judge Ronald E. Jackson on July 3.
