A 40-year-old Bessemer man has been released from the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $60,000 after he was arrested on June 16 and charged with multiple felony counts of making terrorist threats.

The Bessemer Police Department arrested Corey Miguel Norris, who lists a residence in the Timberland Apartments in Bessemer, at his residence after Alabaster police issued four terrorist threat warrants on the suspect.

Norris’ charges came after he allegedly called the Chandler Rehab facility on Shelby County 95 in Alabaster and “made threats to harm people” on June 13, said Alabaster Police Chief Curtis Rigney. Rigney said the suspect previously had a relationship with one of the business’ employees.

“We were able to identify the suspect and arrest him without incident,” Rigney said.

According to Alabama law, “A person commits the crime of making a terrorist threat when he or she threatens by any means to commit any crime of violence or to damage any property by … terrorizing another person.”

Making terrorist threats is a Class C felony. If convicted of the four charges, Norris could face up to 40 years in prison.
