North Shelby Library’s Summer Reading Kickoff party set for May 31

NORTH SHELBY — The North Shelby Library will usher in its annual Summer Reading Kickoff with a party May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The party will feature popcorn, slushies, bouncy houses, face painting, balloon animals and other games and crafts, said children’s librarian Cecelia Dean. Everyone is welcome and no registration is required.
In addition, the library’s young adult department will kick off its summer reading program with a screening of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” at the Lee Branch Carmike theater June 2. The library will provide admission for teens entering sixth through 12th grade, and parents and siblings are welcome to attend for $10 each. The registration deadline is June 2 at 3 p.m. Payment for non-teens also is due at registration, located in the library’s teen department.
