PELHAM—On May 3, Shelby’s Restaurant will host the first edition of Derby Days of Shelby County benefiting the Arc of Shelby County.

The event will begin at 2 p.m. and guests are expected to arrive in their best Kentucky Derby attire. Festivities will continue until 6 p.m. with a live stream of the Kentucky Derby, silent auction, mint juleps, local food, live music, prize drawings and a hat contest.

Proceeds generated during the evening will benefit the Arc of Shelby County, an advocacy and service providing group aimed to support individuals with disabilities of all ages across Shelby County.

“All proceeds will go to services and programs that support and empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.” Development Assistant at the Arc of Shelby County, Elizabeth Walker, said. “Our target is (to raise) around $5,000.”

This money will help fund the many programs run by the Arc of Shelby County, including early intervention programs, employment services, and job coaches, Walker said.

“We offer a little bit of everything, from birth to adulthood,” Walker said.

This will be the first of what Walker hopes will become an annual event.

“We expect this to be an annual event, we’ve gotten fantastic feedback,” Walker said. “Shelby’s has been wonderful to work with.”
