MONTEVALLO—A few hundred people will attend the spring ArtWalk, hosted by the University of Montevallo and the City of Montevallo.
“It does become a street festival as much as it is an art walk,” lead coordinator for the event Tiffany Bunt said.
Many local businesses extend their hours and offer snacks during the event, and local restaurants such as Eclipse, El Agave, Main St. Tavern and Lula B’s will offer drink specials during the event, which began in 2011.
“You can even get an ArtWalk cup with the drinks,” Bunt said.
Approximately 55 artists are registered to participate in the event, with art forms varying from glass art, jewelry, leather working, woodcarving and pottery to printmaking, photography, painting, mixed media, textile arts, up cycled art and food vendors.
This year, the ArtChalk sidewalk drawing contest will give young artists a chance to participate in the festivities as well. Judging will be according to age groups 6-11 and 12-14, and will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The festival will also feature musical performances from Drew Granthum, Rosetta and the Stones, Ben Walker and Chase Stewart.
The ArtWalk will take place May 2 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Montevallo. For more information, contact Bunt at montevalloartwalk@gmail.com
