MONTEVALLO—ALDOT will hold a public hearing on the proposed Main Street Improvement Project, which would enact roadway improvements on Main Street from West Street to Bloch Street in the City of Montevallo.

The plans for the $2.8 million project include paving all of the roads, adding new sidewalks, installing new light fixtures and moving the utilities behind the buildings for aesthetic reasons.

In addition, the project will ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act in the area.

Montevallo Mayor Hollie Cost has been holding small meetings with the business owners who will be affected, and she said that their response has been “overwhelmingly positive” about the plans.

“I feel like the whole community is very excited,” Cost said.

During the Feb. 27 meeting, the public may review project information and maps, ask questions and discuss the project with ALDOT staff and design consultants.

The open house session will begin at 4 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. at Parnell Memorial Library. Written comments may be submitted by completing comment forms during the meeting or by mail to the Third Division Office. Comments must be received by Friday, March 14.
