Calera Police identify homicide victim, charge alleged shooter with murder

CALERA – The Calera Police Department has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred Dec. 5 in Calera and has arrested the alleged shooter.

Demetrius Raishand Watson, 22, of Calera was arrested after police responded to an incident on Slab Hill Road in Calera Dec. 5, according to Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley. When police arrived at the scene, they found 40-year-old Lisa Langston of Chilton County dead of a gunshot wound in a yard next to Slab Hill Road, Lemley said.

Watson was held in custody pending further investigation Dec. 5, and warrants were obtained for his arrest Dec. 6 following the investigation.

Watson has been charged with murder and was held in the Shelby County Jail until he posted bond, which was set at $75,000, Dec. 7.

Murder is a class A felony. If convicted, Watson could face between 10 and 99 years in prison.

Watson has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m. with Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves. The hearing will be located at the Shelby County Courthouse.
