Alabaster man charged with sexual abuse of child

An Alabaster man is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $30,000 bond after he was indicted on charges of sexually abusing a child younger than 12.
Antonio Valdez-Garcia, 26, was booked into the county jail on Oct. 20 on one felony charge of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. Valdez-Garcia was arrested by the Alabaster Police Department on Oct. 20, four days after he was indicted on the charge by a Shelby County grand jury, according to court records.
According to court documents, Valdez-Garcia allegedly “did on or about between April 16, 2013 through April 29, 2013, intentionally subject to sexual contact another person … who was less than 12 years of age.”
As of Oct. 21, no court date was listed for Valdez-Garcia.
According to Alabama law, sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony. If convicted of the crime, Valdez-Garcia could face between two-20 years in prison.
