Briarwood drops opener to Curry

One bad inning proved to be the difference in as Briarwood fell to Curry, 11-3, in the first round of the AHSAA Class 5A State Championships.
The two teams opened up by swapping out scoreless innings in the first and second, before Morgan Reed hit a double with one out. An Amelia Moore bunt allowed Reed to score, and Moore scored on an Ashlyn Boyd single. Rachel Walz provided the last Lion run when she crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice.
It would prove to be the only runs the Lions would produce, as they allowed eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to fall into the loser’s bracket.
Morgan Reed led the Lions in hitting, going 3-4 with a run scored.
Briarwood now faces Faith Academy in an elimination game at 7 p.m. tonight.
