Hard work organizing and leading the Meadow View Elementary School special education program over the past several years helped MVES teacher Leah Wilson earn the Alabaster-Pelham Rotary Club’s Teacher of the Month Award.
During its May 16 meeting, the Rotary Club awarded Wilson with a Teacher of the Month plaque and a $250 donation for her classroom.
“I love my job, and it’s because of great people like Leah Wilson,” said MVES Principal Rachea Simms. “She is a teacher who works tirelessly behind the scenes to help all of our teachers.”
Through her job as a third-grade special education teacher and the school’s lead special education employee, Wilson helps to coordinate programs and curriculum for Meadow View’s special-needs children.
Wilson leads a team of between seven-15 special education teachers each year, Simms said.
“I appreciate this recognition,” Wilson told the Rotary club members, noting this school year marked her largest-ever special education class. “I hope you all have a great summer.”
