Westminster girls win first track championship

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain girls track team captured their first AHSAA Championship trophy in track and field in Selma on May 4.
The team was led by junior Katie Brooks Boone who won and set school records in the 100m, 200m, 300m hurdles and placed second in the 400m. Eighth grader Maddie Hoagland won the 1600m and 3200m, while senior Hope Thompson captured the gold in the triple jump as well.
The Westminster 4x800m relay team of Hoagland, Morgan Reynolds, Sarah Kate Lipperd, Camilla Lemons won the gold and came within 3 seconds of breaking the 28-year-old record. Other medalists were Alice Boone (2nd in the 100m hurdles) and Morgan Reynolds (3rd in the 800m run).
The team scored 120.33 points on their way to the title. They scored no less than 8 points in every running event and scored 13.33 points in the field. The team is coached by Dale Carrell, Gregg Thompson, Leslie Callahan, and Sissy Boone.
