Construction crews with the Brasfield and Gorrie construction company are scheduled to complete a new 60-acre distribution facility for Hibbett Sports by September after work began on the project on April 15.
The new 412,000-square-foot facility is being constructed in Alabaster’s Shelby West Corporate Park, and will be framed with structural steel and load-bearing tilt-up concrete, according to Brasfield and Gorrie. An expandable wall will allow for future expansion, according to the company.
“We are excited to have the chance to work with Hibbett on this facility and help them continue to expand their tremendous business,” Brasfield and Gorrie Regional Vice President Chris Kramer wrote in a press release.
Once completed, the new Hibbett distribution center will replace an about 180,000-square-foot facility Hibbett is currently leasing in Birmingham.
Hibbett chose the Alabaster location in 2012 after looking at several possible sites for the distribution center, including Tupelo, Miss.
Alabaster officials previously said the new distribution center will bring about 150 jobs to the city.
The new Alabaster distribution facility will help the company keep its stores stocked as Hibbett looks to open hundreds of new locations across the country in the near future, according to Hibbett Sports Executive Chairman Mickey Newsome.
