Falcons drop women’s tennis match against North Georgia

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to visiting University of North Georgia 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference match April 7.

The Falcons (8-11 overall, 3-9 in Peach Belt Conference) won two singles’ matches and two doubles’ matches against the Saints.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova, who is currently ranked No. 11 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles’ rankings, defeated Cameron Williams of North Georgia 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles’ match.

Freshman Allison Howell topped Natalia Escobar of North Georgia 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Polcerova and sophomore Anais Robert teamed up to defeat Escobar and Mathilda Baartvedt of North Georgia 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Senior Lauren Blair and freshman Juanita Ossa defeated Audrey Marlette and Nela Handac of North Georgia 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

Junior Haley Highfield fell to Baartvedt 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles’ match. Robert fell to Adalyn Hazelman of North Georgia 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles’ match.

Ossa fell to Jordan Poole of North Georgia 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles’ match. Blair fell to Handac 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Howell and Highfield fell to Williams and Hazelman 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Montevallo returns to action Tuesday, April 9 in its final Peach Belt Conference match of the season against conference newcomer Young Harris College.

The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
