Pelham girls, Thompson boys take fourth at King of the Mountain meet

The Pelham girls’ and Thompson boys’ track teams each took fourth at the King of the Mountain track meet at Vestavia Hills High School March 9.

Mary Grace Strozier led Pelham with a victory in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:07.22. She broke the meet record in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:20.11, but was outdone by Veronica Lyle of Hewitt-Trussville who won the race with a time of 2:16.56.

Oak Mountain’s Emily Stevens won the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:23.92.

Pelham’s Jordan Allison won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.61 while teammate Erin Hines was fifth with a time of 52.29.

Ashley Musachia led Briarwood Christian wit a second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet. Hines took third in the event with a jump of 5-feet.

Thompson’s Jaalen Jones led the Warriors to a fourth place finish in the boys’ standings. Jones won the 100-meter dash with a meet record time of 10.8 seconds. Jones followed with a win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98.

The Warriors also a first place finish in the 4×100 meter relay in a record time of 42.69. Thompson took three of the top-eight spots in the long jump led by winner Timothy Farish with a mark of 20-feet, 7-inches. Shawn Powell (20-6) and Eric Reeves (20-2) took fourth and eighth places respectively.

Alex Baker and Jordan Strong led Spain Park to a ninth-place finish in the team standings. Baker took second in the javelin with a throw of 171-feeet, 6-inches. Strong placed fourth in the 3200 (10:00.39) and seventh in the 1600 (4:36.44).
