Jones leads Thompson to third place at Battle Royale

The Thompson boys track team took third in the boys standings at the 2013 Outdoor Seven Team Battle Royale hosted by Mountain Brook High School March 13 led by a record-setting effort by Jaalen Jones.
Jones broke the meet record in the 150-meter dash with a time of 16.14, which topped the old mark of 16.29 set by Ladarius Woods of Homewood. Jones added a second-place finish in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.44.
The Warriors’ Emmanuel Tate won the 80-meter hurdles with a time of 11.23. The Thompson relay team won the 4×100 meter relay with a record time of 43.06.
Pelham’s Myles Cherry led the Panthers with a victory in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:08.46.
Briarwood Christian’s Sam Whorton won the pole vault with a mark of 13-feet. Will Edwards added a victory in the javelin with a throw of 157-feet, 11-inches.
The Pelham girls track team finished second in the team standings.
Pelham’s Caitland Smith broke the meet record in the 300-meter dash with a time of 41.23. The previous mark was 41.37 set by Whitney Marsh of Mountain Brook. Erin Hines won the 150-meter dash and Mary Grace Strozier won the 1000-meter run. The Pelham relay team won the 4×300 meter relay.
Briarwood Christian’s Elizabeth Cowen won the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 29.47.
In the field events, Thompson’s Geria Bivens won the shot put with a throw of 29-feet, nine and a half inches.
