Falcons fall to Columbus State in conference match

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to visiting Columbus State University 8-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 13.
The Falcons (6-5 overall, 2-4 in Peach Belt Conference) won one doubles’ match against the Cougars, who entered the match ranked No. 6 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II rankings.
Junior Haley Highfield and freshman Allison Howell defeated Olivera Jokic and Laura Chapman 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.
Sophomore Niki Polcerova dropped her first singles’ match of the season to Paolo Cigui of Columbus State 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Highfield fell to Carolin Weikard of Columbus State 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles’ match.
Howell fell to Jokic 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles’ match. Sophomore Anais Robert fell to Chapman 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles’ match.
Sophomore Meagan Stevens fell to Andrea Redrado of Columbus State 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles’ match. Senior Lauren Blair fell to Renata Paiva of Columbus State 6-0, 6-1 in the No.6 singles’ match.
Polcerova and Robert fell to Jokic and Chapman 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Blair and freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Redrado and Paiva 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.
The Falcons return to action Sunday, March 17 with a trip to Francis Marion University for a Peach Belt Conference match at 10 a.m.
