The Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena will host a pair of large events in February 2014, Mayor Gary Waters said during a recent City Council meeting.

The Civic Complex recently received confirmation it will host the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference tournament and the Southeast Great Lakes Skating competition, both of which will be held in February 2014.

Next year will mark the fourth time the Civic Complex has hosted the SECHC tournament. Pelham also hosted the tournament from 2009-2011.

The SECHC includes Auburn University, The University of Alabama, The University of Arkansas, The University of Florida, The University of Georgia, Mississippi State University, The University of Mississippi, The University of South Carolina, The University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University.

The Southeast Great Lakes Skating Council includes figure skating organizations from Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and southeastern Ohio.

“Both of those are very big wins for the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena,” said Council President Rick Hayes.
