Falcons drop conference match against Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to host Lander University 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference match Feb. 17.

The Falcons won two singles’ matches and one doubles’ match against Lander.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova defeated Carolina Lainez of Lander 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Freshman Allison Howell defeated Marion Courbis of Lander 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Howell and junior Haley Highfield defeated Aurelia Ruffat and Tiffany Vanhpraseuth 9-8 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Highfield fell to Ainhoa Rico Martin of Lander 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles’ match. Sophomore Anais Robert fell to Ruffat 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles’ match.

Freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Cayce Bradley of Lander 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles’ match. Senior Lauren Blair fell to Vanhpraseuth 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert fell to Lainez and Bradley 9-7 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Blair and Ossa fell to Martin and Renata Mello 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday, Feb. 19 with a non-conference match at home against the University of West Alabama at 1 p.m.
