Basketball fans across Shelby County will have six sites to choose from to catch postseason basketball as area tournaments begin Feb. 7.

Vincent, Calera, Shelby County, Thompson, Spain Park and Pelham will host area tournaments while numerous other teams will venture outside Shelby County to begin their run into the postseason.

The Vincent boys’ basketball team captured their second consecutive area title with an undefeated record. The Yellow Jackets will take on the winner of the Victory Christian/Holy Family contest on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Calera Lady Eagles earned the right to host the area tournament after winning the regular season Class 4A, Area 7 title. Calera will face West Blocton on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

The Shelby County Wildcats went undefeated in Class 5A, Area 9 play to host their area tournament. The Wildcats will take on Chilton County at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8.

The Thompson Warriors will host the Class 6A, Area 7 tournament after capturing the regular season title with a 5-1 record. The Warriors will take on Stanhope Elmore Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

The Spain Park Lady Jags will play host to the Class 6A, Area 8 girls’ tournament while Pelham will host the Area 8 boys’ tournament. The Lady Jags finished area play 6-0 and will play Chelsea on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

The Panthers earned the right to host the area tournament when they won a coin flip after being tied with Spain Park in regular season play. Pelham will face Oak Mountain Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

Teams that advance to the area tournament championship game will automatically qualify for the sub-regional tournament. Area tournament champions will receive a better seed in the sub-regional tournament beginning Feb. 14.
