The Spain Park Lady Jags defeated the Oak Mountain Lady Eagles 50-39 in Class 6A, Area 8 action Jan. 22.

With the win, Spain Park (18-7, 5-0) will unofficially host the area tournament starting the first week in February. The host team of the area tournament will be determined at a coaches meeting following the end of the regular season.

The Lady Jags took an 11-7 lead after the first quarter and shot 55 percent in the second quarter to take a 26-16 advantage at the half.

Oak Mountain (13-9, 3-2) took advantage of a poor shooting performance by Spain Park to cut into the lead. The Lady Eagles were perfect from the free throw line and beyond the arch for a 32-27 Lady Jags’ lead headed into the fourth.

Spain Park went 10-for-16 from the free throw line in the final quarter to seal the 50-39 win.

Victoria Baldwin led Spain Park with 23 points and 11 rebounds in a double-double performance. Denise Newton added 12 points.

Madison Pierce and Maiyah Lee each scored eight points to lead Oak Mountain.
