Thanking Pelham’s city leadership

Dear Editor,
To Pelham Mayor Gary Waters and City Council leadership, I personally wanted to express my gratitude for all your service since you have taken office. In just a few weeks, specifically referring to the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Rink, numerous patrons both old and new, have seen and been talking about major improvements already, including, but not limited to, the changes in the parking spaces, the concessions hours and prices, cleaner facilities (In particular bathrooms), optimistic employees, and most importantly overall morale at the complex.
The tree lighting ceremony, emceed by none other than the mayor, was fabulous. Such publicity and events for the Complex and ice rink can only improve Pelham’s reputation. Birmingham Parent Magazines cover story on ice skating, the Shelby County Reporter article on Pelham mother and daughter skaters Kim Heitkam and Lexi Walton and the Birmingham Metro Magazine article featuring figure skating Anita Sexton can only further this progress.
Furthermore, Mayor Waters’ welcome address in the figure skating Enchanted Moments ice skating holiday show program was touching to all those that read it. As you and the community witnessed, hours of preparation, as well as dedicated staff and volunteers, were part of making the show come alive. We agree Danny Tate’s appointment as interim Complex Director was a smart decision.
The Birmingham Figure Skating Club, the hockey families, the PCC Alliance and other daily users such as myself thank you. With such progress already, we are confident more people will come out of the woodworks and the complex and ice rink will thrive. Looking forward to many more complex and ice improvements.
To a prosperous new year.
