Vincent downs Westminster at county tourney

CALERA – The Vincent Yellow Jackets ended the first day of play at the Shelby County tournament with a 56-28 win over the Westminster School at Oak Mountain Knights Dec. 15 at Calera High School.
Vincent opened the game scoring 10 unanswered points on their way to a 21-4 lead headed into the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored Westminster 15-7 in the second to take a commanding 36-11 lead at the half.
The Yellow Jackets maintained their lead in the third and closed the game on a 6-0 run before Westminster’s Michael Stanford hit a three at the buzzer for the 56-28 final score.
Anterio Rogers led all scorers with 14 points while Tyler Williams added 13 points for Vincent.
Westminster’s Will Robey led the Knights with seven points.
Vincent will face Shelby County in the second round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at Shelby County High School. Westminster will face Montevallo in a consolation game Dec. 21 at 3 p.m.
