NORTH SHELBY – For only the second time in school history, the Spain Park Jaguars will begin the Class 6A playoffs at home when they take on the Central-Phenix City Red Devils on Nov. 9.
The Jaguars (8-2) are coming off a 2012 campaign where they won their first ever region title.
Central (7-3) finished fourth in Region 3 with a 5-2 region record. The Red Devils have made the most damage on the road this season with a 3-1 record away from Garrett-Harrison Stadium in Phenix City. Central was ranked No. 10 in the Week 9 AHSAA poll.
The Red Devils have averaged 33.6 points per game and have given up 23 points to opponents, which are very similar to the numbers put up by the Jaguars. Spain Park averages 31.1 points a game on offense, while giving up 22.8 points to their opponents.
Friday will mark the seventh time in school history that the Jaguars have made the playoffs and are 1-0 at home in first round playoff games at Spain Park Stadium.
