FROM STAFF REPORTS

Alabama Hockey heads to Pelham this weekend for its first home games of the season. The Frozen Tide will take on Florida Gulf Coast University Friday night at 8 p.m. and the University of Arkansas Saturday at 7:30 p.m.  Both games will take place at the Pelham Civic Complex in Pelham.

The Tide is coming off of a win against No. 2 Davenport University with a score of 3-1.  Kenny Jannsen scored one goal while Zach Daily had the other two for the Tide. Alabama’s goalie Sean Vinson had a career weekend giving up only eight goals on the weekend with 112 saves for a save percentage of .933.

“It was a very successful weekend for us. Davenport was a huge win for us and our program,” Head Coach Mike Quenneville said.

The games this weekend are very important for the Tide.  If attendance is high this Friday and Saturday, the team will schedule more games at home next fall.  Also, if the Tide does well this month, it will put itself in great position for the national tournament standings.

“The win against Davenport last Sunday should help our rankings,” Coach Quenneville said.  “Florida Gulf Coast and Arkansas are both ranked teams as well, so hopefully we’ll play competitive and win both games in front of our home crowd to further our standings.”
