Briarwood falls at Pinson Valley

PINSON VALLEY – The Briarwood Christian Lions were held to just 154 yards of total offense in a 46-21 loss to the Pinson Valley Indians on the road on Nov. 2.
The Lions (4-6, 4-3 in Class 5A, Region 4) trailed 7-0 before they recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to even the game at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Indians were able to regain the lead early in the second on a 10-yard Nick Gibson touchdown, but Briarwood answered just before the half. Ethan Simmons punched the ball into the end zone from three yards out for a 14-13 Lions lead.
Pinson Valley responded when Brooks Garrett found Ernest Robinson for a 7-yard touchdown pass to take a 19-14 lead in at the intermission.
Garrett opened the scoring in the second half with his second passing touchdown, this time to Harry Mason for a 25-14 Indians’ lead.
With just over three minutes left in the third, Simmons brought Briarwood within a score on a 1-yard touchdown run. Jordan Box added his third extra point of the game to cut the deficit to 27-21, Pinson Valley.
The Indians put the game out of reach scoring 21 points in the final 13 minutes of the game to seal the 46-21 win.
Simmons led the Lions with 28 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns. Reagan White added 21 yards on three carries.
Chandler Wilkins threw for 99 yards on 14-of-31 passing with an interception. Brayden Housel had 64 yards receiving on four catches.
The Lions will now turn their sights to the Jackson Aggies who they will take on in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
