Oak Mountain fairs well at tourney

HOMEWOOD-The Oak Mountain Eagles (29-6) compiled a 4-2 record in the Margaret Blalock Memorial tournament on Oct. 13 at Homewood High School.
In their first match, the Eagles defeated Oxford High School 2-0 (25-12, 25-16) ,before falling to eventual tournament champion Bayside Academy 2-1 (25-21, 17-25, 12-15).
The Eagles then bounced back to defeat Briarwood Christian 2-0 (25-13, 25-7) and St. Paul’s Episcopal 2-1 (15-25, 25-14, 15-13).
In Oak Mountain’s final match, the Eagles fell to Class 6A No. 1 McGill-Toolen High School 2-0 (25-15, 25-16)
The tournament leader for the Eagles was Emily Cosgrove with 64 kills, 26 digs, 10 blocks and five aces, while Hannah Beach added 45 kills, 90 assists, 15 digs, eight blocks and seven aces. Rosemary Wendel chipped in 45 assists and seven aces, while Madison Pierce added 15 kills and eight blocks. Amy Ritenour helped the Eagles with 38 digs.
Oak Mountain will host the Area tournament Thursday, Oct. 18 and open against Spain Park High School.
