Chelsea beats Shelby County, Moody

CHELSEA-Chelsea High School, Shelby County High School and Moody High School played in a round robin at Chelsea on Sept. 18 with the Hornets not losing a set to either Shelby County or Moody.
Chelsea won the first match of the night over Moody (27-25, 25-11.) At one point in the first set, Moody led 22-16, but Chelsea went on an 11-3 run to close the game. The run seemed to spark the Hornets into the second set which was never really close.
Moody faced Shelby County next. The Wildcats won the first set 25-17, but Moody rallied to win the second set 25-16 and the deciding third set 15-10.
In the final match of the night, Chelsea faced Shelby County. The Hornets tamed the Wildcats (25-10, 25-11). In the first set, Chelsea went on an amazing 16-2 run stretching a small 3-1 lead to a 19-3 rout. Chelsea finished the second set on a 15-5 run.
Junior Emma Cotney led Chelsea with 14 digs, against the Wildcats. Senior Sabrina Williams added five aces. Junior Courtney Campbell chipped in six assists and four kills.
Shelby County was led by Jasmyn Buie with two kills in the match.
Chelsea coach Jamie Gill said her team used the night to continue to prepare for the tougher competition ahead.
“They played well tonight,” Gill said.
Shelby County coach Jamie Creekmore thought his team played well against Moody, but not against Chelsea.Overall though, Creekmore said his team is improving.
“We started the season 0-6 and we are now 10-8,” Creekmore said. “We are getting better. We had won 10 straight until tonight.”
