MONTEVALLO – University of Montevallo junior goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway earned a familiar honor from the Peach Belt Conference after posting a pair of shutouts last week.
The York, England native was named the Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time in his collegiate career following the Falcons’ 10-0 win over UAH in a non-conference match Sept. 11 and a 3-0 win over UNC-Pembroke in their Peach Belt Conference opener Sept. 15.
Ledgeway played all 180 minutes of shutout goal in two the two wins. The senior began with a two-save effort as the Falcons (4-2) blasted Alabama-Huntsville 10-0. He followed that up with a defensive gem as Montevallo took to the road and handed UNC-Pembroke its first loss of the season, making two saves.
UNC-Pembroke, which entered the contest as the top-scoring team in the Peach Belt Conference, was held without a goal for the first time all season. Ledgeway is ranked second in the Peach Belt Conference in goals against average and save percentage and is third in minutes played.
The recognition marks the first Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honor for Ledgeway this season after he earned the weekly award three times during his sophomore season.
Ledgeway was named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference team at the conclusion of both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
The Falcons’ goalkeeper and his teammates return to action Sept. 22 with a Peach Belt Conference contest against Francis Marion at 7 p.m. at Varsity Field.
