Falcons split final matches in Lions Classic

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team split a pair of matches Sept. 1 against Charleston and host Saint Leo in the seventh annual Lions Classic.
The Falcons defeated Charleston 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-23) before falling to host Saint Leo 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) in their final match.
Michelle Walker led Montevallo (3-1) with 10 kills in the win over Charleston. Manyi Ati contributed nine kills, while Brianna Guzinski added eight kills and eight digs.
Rebekah Phelps finished with seven kills. Betsy Stevenson chipped in five kills and a team-high 30 assists.
Kaleigh Harvey posted a team-high 18 digs in the win.
Walker led the Falcons with 12 kills in the loss to Saint Leo in the second match of the day.
Ati and Phelps added seven kills each. Jordan Spinks contributed six kills.
Harvey posted a team-high 16 digs. Stevenson led Montevallo with 19 digs, while Briana Marquez added 13 assists.
The Falcons return to action Sept.4 with a 6 p.m. match on the road at West Georgia.
