HOMEWOOD-Chelsea High School defeated John Carroll Catholic School 42-9 on Friday Aug. 31 at John Carroll. The Hornets defense pitched a shutout with John Carroll scoring off of a safety and a kickoff return touchdown.
Chelsea coach Wade Waldrop said his team needed to cut down on the penalities and missed tackles. He said he was disappointed in his team’s kick coverage, but was happy with the way the game unfolded.
“We have a lot of things to correct,” Waldrop said. “But we stayed healthy and we got to play a lot of players. The main thing is I really liked the kid’s effort.”
Chelsea was led by senior running back Julius McCall who had 14 rushes for 171 yards with 13 rushes for 170 yards being in the first half alone. Junior quarterback Trent Hagin had a solid night completing 8-of-10 passing for 149 yards. The Hornets had 437 total yards.
