FROM STAFF REPORTS

MT LAUREL – Families and friends will have the opportunity to join others in the fight against childhood cancer at Sebastian’s RunWalk for a Cure on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Mt Laurel.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k RunWalk begins at 8:30 a.m. The one mile Kids’ Fun Run/Family Walk begins at 10 a.m. Participants can choose to walk individually or create a team to honor a patient, participate as a company or school or walk with friends.

Participants will be able to enjoy food and kid’s activities and also honor Sebastian and all other children who are facing childhood cancer. This event will benefit the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama and bring together supporters of all ages.

Sebastian Lemos was a young boy who loved to play soccer and watch out for his younger sister, Isabella. At 4 years old, he was diagnosed with Central Nervous System Sarcoma, a rare tumor in children.

For more than three years, Sebastian faced doctor appointments and many different treatments. Unfortunately, he lost his battle with cancer in 2008. In 2009, his family and friends started Sebastian’s RunWalk for a Cure to honor his memory by raising money to help other children.

Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for kids 12 and younger. Sponsorship opportunities and online registration can be found at Sebastiansrunwalk.org. More information is available by contacting Shelley Scott at shelley.scott@childrensal.org or calling 638-9007.
