MONTEVALLO – Attorney Steve Sears is one of four candidates running for Montevallo mayor in the Aug. 28 municipal election.
“I would like to serve the people of Montevallo by making a number of changes and cleaning up the town,” Sears said. “The main thing I’d like to do is restore transparency to the decision-making process.”
Sears said he plans to accomplish this by making “all important decisions in public meetings.”
Sears was Montevallo’s city attorney for 20 years. He said he has been involved in civic organizations and volunteer positions within the city.
Sears has served as the president of the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce.
During the Montevallo political forum Aug. 16, Sears said he possesses the “temperament and dignity” to bring to the mayor’s office.
Sears said in an email that, if elected, he would try to restore “dignity to city hall, open and transparent government and zoning rules and control growth.”
“If I thought everything was going well, I wouldn’t run,” he said.
