Montevallo mother killed in car accident

MONTEVALLO – Kim Yancy was killed in car accident Friday, June 15 in Fort Payne.
A Montevallo resident, Yancy, 38, was in the front seat of a 2002 GMC Yukon on Desoto Parkway.
Michael Sydney Holladay of West Blocton was driving the vehicle, and neither were wearing seatbelts. Yancy’s 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were also in the vehicle.
A 17-year-old female from Fort Payne driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder left her lane of travel and struck the Yukon, according to a press release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Yancy was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m. at the scene of the accident. Yancy’s children, who were wearing seatbelts, were transported to DeKalb Regional Medical Center, then later transferred to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Holladay was airlifted to the Chattanooga hospital, according to the release.
Kathy Yancy, the children’s aunt, said the girl has a broken arm and recovered from a concussion, and the boy sustained burns from the accident. Kathy Yancy said the children’s grandmother, Becky Lamonica of Montevallo, would take custody of the children.
Yancy’s husband, Christopher Scott Yancy, was killed in a workplace shooting at Ferguson Enterprises in Pelham in August 1999.
Visitation for Kim Yancy will be June 20 at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held June 21 at 11 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel Montevallo with Rev. Leanne Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. According to Yancy’s obituary, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to her beloved children’s trust fund at any Regions Bank.
