Local school gives blood, saves lives

Dear Editor,
LifeSouth Community Blood Centers discovered that the kindergarten, first grade and second grade students at Helena Elementary School are also very good teachers. LifeSouth, through its Five Points of Life in the Classroom program, taught students about blood cells, what they do and why they are important.
The students also learned about the importance of blood donation and how blood donors can save lives. The children then went home and shared what they’d learned with their parents.
Those parents and the school faculty teamed for an amazing blood drive the following week, where 54 units of blood were collected. Thanks to the students, parents and teachers for this success that will save lives in our community.
