Investigators identify drowning victim

MONTEVALLO – A 44-year-old Montevallo resident drowned in a private pond in the Montevallo area May 29.
Thaddeus Jerome Evans Sr. drowned in approximately 12 feet of water, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., Shelby County 911 received a call of a possible adult drowning in a private pond in the 1500 block of Shelby County 17 in the Montevallo area. Sheriff’s deputies, personnel from Montevallo Fire Department and members of the City of Calera Dive Team responded to the scene in an attempt to locate the victim, according to the release.
The Calera Dive Team located Evans at approximately 2:43 p.m., the release stated.
The investigation into this drowning is ongoing, but preliminary information received indicates Evans was fishing from a small boat when he fell into the water, according to the release.
Evans’ body has been transported from the scene by Shelby County Coroner’s Office, and an autopsy will be performed at a later time, the release stated.
According to the release, Sheriff Chris Curry would like to convey his sympathy to Evans’ family and express his gratitude to the by-standers and rescue personnel that responded to the scene in an attempt to assist Evans.
