Wilsonville woman injured after being dragged behind vehicle

WILSONVILLE – Sheriff’s investigators are looking for a Wilsonville man allegedly responsible for dragging a woman behind a vehicle May 20.
At approximately noon, an on-duty Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy was notified by witnesses of a woman being dragged by a vehicle on Alabama 25 in Wilsonville. At the same time, Shelby County 911 received a report from another witness of the same incident, according a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s investigators are treating this as a crime of domestic violence and looking for the victim’s estranged boyfriend. According to the press release, Kirt Bernard Benson, 41, of Wilsonville is wanted in connection with the assault on the victim.
The deputy responded to the area and located the victim lying in the parking lot of a local business. Paramedics were notified and transported the victim to a local hospital with serious injuries, the release stated.
The release stated the victim is recovering at a local hospital, and investigators are still interviewing her. Once they review all of the facts in this case, additional charges may be filed.
Investigators have two warrants for Benson’s arrest: Domestic Violence second degree and Violation of a Protection from Abuse Order, according to the release.
