Velera Ruth Payne

Velera Ruth Payne, age 91, a resident of Columbiana and Sylacauga, was born Feb. 8, 1921 and died May 12, 2012. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Pinelawn Gardens with Rev. Ricky Ruston officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana.

Velera was a lifetime member of Columbiana United Methodist Church and Sunday school teacher for 60 years. She retired from Cook Publications. For many years Velera was the linotype operator for Shelby County Reporter and Sylacauga News.

She is preceded in death by her father, William F. Payne (Nobie); mother, Ola Beatrice Gardner Payne (Beadie); sisters, Ola Avis Payne Clowdus, Geneva Hill Payne; brothers, William F. Payne Jr., James Wesley Payne and Louis Calbert Payne. She is survived by her brother, W.D. “Sonny” Payne (Mary) of Columbiana; sisters, Dorsey Vaughn Payne Cates of Thorsby and Elaine Payne Tidwell (Leon) of Oneonta; sisters-in-law, Ruby Payne of Columbiana and Dorothy Payne of Wake Forest, N.C.; 13 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; eight great-great nieces and nephews and numerous other family and friends.
