Jaguars leading state tournament

The Spain Park High School boys’ golf team collectively carded a 2-under par 286 in the opening round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tournament May 14 at the Robert Trent Jones Grand National course in Auburn, which gave the Jaguars a 11-stroke lead over second-place Hoover.
Robby Prater carded an eagle and two birdies in his opening round, which helped the 2010 AHSAA Class 6A individual champion post a 4-under par 68. Prater leads Walker Holden of Fairhope by one stroke in individual standings.
Patrick Martin of Spain Park is in a four-way tie for third place in individual standings after firing a 2-under par 70 in the opening round. Daniel Schroder and Vasili Kartos each posted a 2-over par 74 in the first round, which left the pair in a four-way tie for ninth in individual standings.
Connor Smith of Spain Park finished with a 3-over par 75 in the opening round, which placed him in a two-way tie for 13th overall in individual standings.
The final round will be held May 15.
