Knights finish runner-up in state track and field meet

The Westminster School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams each finished runner-up in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A-1A state championship meet May 5.
Andrew Carrell led the boys’ team as he captured the 110-meter hurdles title championship with his time of 16.21 seconds. Carrell also finished second in the boys’ 400-meter dash with his time of 52.41 seconds.
The Westminster boys’ 3,200-meter relay team also captured the event title with a time of 8:49.65.
Katie Brooks Boone led the Westminster girls’ team as she captured the girls’ 100-meter dash championship with her time of 12.68 seconds. Boone also finished second in the girls’ 200-meter dash with her time of 25.94 seconds and second in the girls’ 400-meter dash withher time of 58.43 seconds.
Morgan Reynolds came in second in the girls’ 1,600-meter run with her time of 5:37.59.
The Pelham High School girls’ track and field team finished third in the Class 6A state championship meet May 5. Caitland Smith led the Panthers as she finished second overall in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.21 seconds and second in the girls’ 200-meter dash with her time of 25.12 seconds.
The Spain Park girls’ team came in fifth in the Class 6A state championship meet. Simone Charley led the Jaguars as she finished second in the long jump competition with his leap of 17 feet, 9.75 inches.
Oak Mountain girls’ team finished seventh in the Class 6A state championship meet.
The Spain Park boys’ track and field team finished fourth in the Class 6A state championship meet.
Brandon Hazouri led the Jaguars as he won the girls’ 1,600-meter run title with his time of 4:18.92. Hazouri also captured the 3,200-meter run with his time of 9:37.84.
Joseph WIlliams won the boys’ discus throw with his toss of 185 feet, 8 inches.
The Thompson boys’ came in sixth in the Class 6A state championship meet. Brandon Farrish led the Warriors as he finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches. Oak Mountain came in seventh in the Class 6A state championship meet.
The Briarwood Christian School boys’ track and field team finished fifth in the Class 5A state championship meet. Kalan Reed, Will Edwards and Sam Whorton led the Lions as each captured individual titles.
Reed captured the boys’ 110-meter hurdles title with his time of 14.32 seconds. Reed also won the boys’ long jump title with his leap of 22 feet, 6.75 inches.
Edwards claimed the javelin title with his toss of 172 feet, 2 inches. Whorton won the pole vault title with his toss of 13 feet.
The Briarwood Christian girls’ team came in eighth in the Class 5A state championship meet.
