The Calera High School baseball team dropped a doubleheader with Oak Grove in the second round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A playoffs April 27.
The Eagles fell to Oak Grove 8-5 in the opener.
Jordan Sizemore led Calera offensively as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run homer. Sizemore drove in two runs and scored one run.
Ryne Phelps finished 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run. Coby Mize, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-4 at the plate with a two-run homer.
De’Andre Shanks took the loss on the mound after giving up four runs with one strikeout and one walk.
Calera dropped the nightcap against Oak Grove 8-1.
Mize led the Eagles offensively as he finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Mize scored the lone run for Calera in the game.
J.R. Seay went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Calera coach Stephen Floyd said the Eagles played with energy in the opener before running out of offensive firepower in the nightcap.
“The kids played with alot of emotion and heart in the first game and unfortunately came out flat in the second game,” Floyd said. “Oak Grove is a really talented team at the plate and on the mound. We have not had great depth on the mound and I thought that the kids that pitched tonight competed well in both games, but we were just not able finish game one and not able to give the run support when we needed it in game two. This season did not start the way we wanted it with a few injuries, but I am proud of the boys’ effort to get to the playoffs and to compete once we got there.”
