Briarwood Christian finishes fifth at state tournament

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ tennis team finished fifth in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A state tournament April 27.
The Lions racked up 27 points in the state tournament.
Olivia Odom and Lauren Bowers teamed up in the No. 2 doubles’ bracket and reached the championship match.
Odom and Bowers defeated Brandi Davis and Alexis Daniels 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and topped Ann Mason Hunter and Seline Morrissette of St. Paul’s 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 in the semifinals. Odom and Bowers fell to McKenzie Bussman and Kelsie Morgan 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
Judson Tarrence of Briarwood Christian defeated Ada Ruth Huntley of Chilton County 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles’ bracket opening round before falling to Allison Howell of Cullman 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. Odom defeated Anna Adams of Chilton County 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles’ bracket opening round before falling to Kallie Beall of Walker 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Ann Ellison Tarrance of Briarwood Christian defeated Regan Bates of Carool 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles’ bracket quarterfinals before falling to Jeana Burton of Walker 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. Bowers defeated Kaci Shuman of Carroll 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles’ bracket quarterfinals before falling to Monnie Slaten of St. Paul’s 7-6, 6-0 in the semifinals.
Sellers Mulvaney of Briarwood Christian fell to Ann Mason Hunter of St. Paul’s 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles’ bracket quarterfinals. Ashton Henderson of Briarwood Christian fell to Emma Walker of Arab 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles’ bracket quarterfinals.

Henderson and Frannie Ware of Briarwood Christian defeated Brandi Daniels and Emily Haga of Arab 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 3 doubles’ bracket quarterfinals before falling to Slaten and Mary Rose DeMouy of St. Paul’s 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals.
