Jaguars sweep Chelsea in doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Chelsea in a high school baseball doubleheader April 16.

The Jaguars defeated Chelsea 3-2 in the opener.

Mikey White led Spain Park offensively as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double. White also scored one run in the victory.

Colton Freeman finished 1-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in one run. Josh Close, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-3 at the plate. Brandon Marley finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run. Paul Angel finished 1-for-4 at the plate.

Trey Hawker earned the win on the mound after closing the game with 2/3 of an inning without giving up a run or a hit.

Hunter Hall started on the mound and gave up one earned run on three hits with one strikeout in four innings. Freeman allowed one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks in 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Eli Bashour led Chelsea offensively as he finished 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.

Hunter Kennedy finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run. Brody Holder went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Alex Dean finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Tripp Hobbs scored one run.

Ross Ham took the loss on the mound after giving up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Hobbs started on the mound and allowed two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks in four innings. Joey Mock recorded the final out in the game.

Spain Park defeated Chelsea 10-0 in the nightcap.

Close led the Jaguars offensively as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Close drove in one run and scored one run in the victory.

Dustin Cowart, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 1-for-1 at the plate with a homer. Angel, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a triple. White went 1-for-4 at the plate with a triple.

Jon Sumner, who drove in three runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a double. Hall finished 1-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Freeman, Tom Paduch and Peyton Walsh scored one run each in the win.

White earned the win on the mound after giving up just two hits with five strikeouts in two innings.

Josh Rich pitched three innings in relief without giving up a run or a hit and recorded three strikeouts and one walk.

Dean and Holder led Chelsea offensively as each finished 1-for-2 at the plate.

Keelan Gregg took the loss on the mound after giving up six runs, including five earned runs, on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks in four innings.

Connor McVay allowed four runs, including two earned runs, on two hits with one strikeout and one walk in 2/3 of an inning in relief.
