The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office could hear results from the Jefferson County coroner concerning Carrie Elaine Gentry’s death in the next day or two.
According to Capt. Ken Burchfield of the sheriff’s office, the coroner’s report concerning the cause and preliminary reason for death may confirm suspicions of a homicide.
“As far as being close to a point in arresting someone, we are likely weeks away from that because we’ve sent a lot of evidence off. (We sent evidence off) the second day we had this missing person’s case,” Burchfield said.
“We’ve sent a lot of it off to the (Alabama) Department of Forensic Sciences. We’re asking them to take a look at it and tell us what’s there,” he added. “In a lot of circumstances, it could take months, but we’ve asked if they can speed it up. We would appreciate it. We’re still looking at weeks.”
Burchfield said Elaine Gentry’s grandson, Daniel Scott Gentry, was arrested on March 29 for a parole violation, but did not confirm any connection between the arrest and Elaine Gentry’s case. No bond is listed for Daniel Gentry.
