FROM STAFF REPORTS
University of Montevallo junior pitcher Michael Shreves was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after nearly tossing a perfect game April 6 in the Falcons’ win over Augusta State University.
This is Shreves’ second conference Pitcher of the Week award.
Shreves was one infield hit away from a perfect game on Friday as he tossed a complete-game one-hitter in a win over Augusta State. The junior allowed an infield single to start the second inning, then proceeded to retire the rest of the Jaguars in order, 24 in a row, to end the game.
Shreves struck out seven batters in facing one over the minimum and did not issue a walk. The complete game is his second of the year, making him one of five Peach Belt Conference pitchers to have more than one this season. He is 3-0 in his last three starts with four earned runs allowed in 24 2/3 innings pitched.
Shreves and the rest of the Falcons return to action this Wednesday, April 11 at 6 p.m. as they host No. 8 University of North Alabama in a non-conference game.
