Falcons drop conference series against Columbus State

In game two, Columbus State took the early lead as the Cougars scored two runs in the first and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Montevallo eventually got on the board in the fifth as Peterson hit an RBI double down the left field line to score Willoughby who reached on an inning-opening single.
Montevallo scored another run in the sixth as Willoughby hit an RBI double to score sophomore Alec Stiver who had reached on a fielder’s choice. The Falcons cut the lead to just two in the seventh as junior Mark Strong singled in Andrews who had reached on a lead-off single.
The Cougars built a cushion in the bottom half as they scored a pair of runs off a two-run double.
Montevallo nearly tied the game in the eighth as they scored a pair of runs on a two-RBI single through the left side by Peterson which scored Fulmer and Willoughby who had reached on a hit and a walk. After a walk by freshman Vinny Rodriguez, the bases were loaded with one out. UM was unable to move any more of the runners as a strikeout and a groundout ended the inning.
Montevallo went down in order in the ninth to end the game down 7-5.
The Falcons will return to action Wednesday, April 4 at 5 p.m. as they travel to the University of West Georgia for a single game.
