After the welcome in the chapel, visitors moved to the Oval Office to hear from Johnny Curry, special projects coordinator for the American Village. Curry shared stories of past presidents and an explanation of the office.

Curry said a portrait of Washington must remain in the Oval Office throughout every presidency.

“Whoever is sitting behind this desk ought to be a little nervous about that man looking down on him when he makes the decisions he makes,” Curry said of the portrait.

Throughout the rest of the day, visitors signed up for Washington’s Continental Army, enjoyed cupcakes to celebrate Washington’s birthday, met Thomas Jefferson, played 18th century games and more.
