Delays in expansion are inexcusable

Dear Editor,
Thank you for the article about the Pelham High School expansion. The delay in completing this project has caused numerous inconveniences to teachers and students alike. I have worked in construction all my life and I have never seen anything like this.
I agree with many that there was really no reason to use an out of state contractor. After all Chris Woods Contracting finished the lovely Bessemer High School well within the time period given. Wyatt Construction is also one that prides itself on finishing a project on time.
It is even more disturbing to drive by this pitiful looking unfinished project and then see how quickly Brice has finished Highlands Church on Highway 261.
Finally, I wonder why the Shelby County Board is just now taking an interest in this problem. Would they have been quicker to respond to these delays had these delays taken place at Oak Mountain? I don’t think so.
The faculty, students and support staff deserve better.
